v2.0.7 Release Notes
Daylife Select Release Notes
Released June 18th, 2009
Daylife Select 2.0.7 extends on the Editor’s Picks feature released in v. 2.0.6, enabling publishers to add editorially curated content to additional pages besides topic pages. Publishers can also schedule expiration dates for pinned content.
Also in this release, we are rolling out Custom Page Template Management. That means you can now bulk-edit the layout and module settings of custom pages using a default shared template, or create additional shared or standalone templates. This was a much-requested client feature, and we are pleased to add this publishing flexibility.
Other features in this release include a new Related Videos module, adding additional video sources and the ability for publishers to submit their own video feeds. Last but not least, we are unveiling new beta topic leaf pages on Daylife.com for Related Conversations from Twitter and Related Videos.
Enjoy the new features, and as always we welcome your feedback.
New Features
-
Editor’s Picks v2. As promised in v.2.0.6, we are releasing requested enhancements to the Editor’s Picks module. Most notably, the ability to set expiration dates on pinned content, so that publishers can schedule a content item to delete from any page on a future date. To access this feature, just click the calendar icon in the “Pin and Preview” modal. In addition, publishers can also add editor’s picks on the site homepage, custom pages, and groups of page via template management.

Clicking on the calendar icon from the Preview Pinned Content modal expands the content scheduling interface (as shown above). From here you can set an expiration data by browsing the calendar.

Custom Page Template Management. Publishers can now bulk-edit custom pages, and by default custom pages now share a default template. That means editing the layout of a custom page will affect the layout of all custom pages. You can change this setting using custom page template management, creating new shared templates to edit groups of custom pages differently than other custom pages, or standalone templates to edit individual custom pages differently than the rest of your custom pages. See the help documentation on template management to learn more about this feature.
When creating a custom page, you now have the option of changing page template settings, as you can with topic pages. The layout and and module settings for custom Pages, like topic pages, can now be edited as part of a shared template by default. Change this setting to edit subsets of custom pages or individual custom pages differently than your other custom pages.
-
Related Videos Module. The new Related Videos module is intended to replace the YouTube module, and provides related videos from video aggregators like Truveo and Videosurf. The module also includes customization options that allow publishers to submit their own mRSS video feeds directly to Daylife. Upon receipt of the feed, a Daylife account representative will then add your video feeds to our source index, and enable your video content to appear on your Daylife Select site whenever it is contextually relevant.
The Related Videos module features content from YouTube, VideoSurf, and Truveo. Publishers can also populate this module with their own video content by submitting their own mRSS video feeds.

Preview them at http://beta.daylife.com by clicking on any topic page and clicking the “View all” link in the Twitter and Related Videos module. These topic leaf pages will soon be available to all Daylife Select publishers as part of the default template. Stay tuned!
