v2.0.6 Release Notes
Daylife Select Release Notes
Released May 28th, 2009
Daylife Select 2.0.6 introduces new content pinning functionality that lets clients editorially curate content from their Daylife site, and ‘pin’ that content to the top of any topic page using an Editor’s Picks module. This feature builds upon the curatorial feature-set in Daylife Select, and specifically, the Content Striking feature that was released in v. 2.0.2.
Also in this release, we are extending the Custom Topic List module to include custom topic pages. That means you can now juxtapose Daylife topics with your own custom topic pages in custom topic lists. Enjoy the new features, and as always we welcome your feedback!
New Features
-
Content Pinning. Publishers can now pin articles, photos, quotes, and Twitter tweets to the top of any topic page. Pinned content displays within an Editor’s Picks module. You can add and delete pinned content at any time, as well as edit how your pinned content will display within the Editor’s Picks module. To get started, simply mouse over the thumbtack icon next to any article, photo, quote, or Twitter tweet, and click to pin a particular item.
This is the first version of this feature, and there are several enhancements that we will roll out in upcoming releases. Upcoming enhancements include the ability to pin content to your site Homepage, Custom Pages, and entire groups of topic pages using topic templates (e.g. all Politics Topic Pages, or all NBA Basketball Player Topics), as well as the ability to schedule expiration dates for pinned content.

Clicking on the thumbtack icon opens the “Pin this Content” palette (as shown above). From here you can select the topic pages where you’d like to pin the content. Choose from the suggested topic pages or search for other topic pages.
After pinning a content item, you can remotely preview how the item will appear on different topic pages within the Editor’s Picks module. You can change the sort order of pinned content items, unpin content items, and preview your changes live.
Once you’ve confirmed the display of the Editor’s Picks module for a particular topic page, you’re all set. Click to the actual topic page to see the Editor’s Picks module featuring all of your pinned content items.
-
Custom Topic Page Support for Custom Topic Lists. Publishers can now import custom topic pages into the custom topic list module. The module even imports the hero images that publishers have selected for custom topic pages. You can rearrange the order of regular topics and custom topics however you like.
Once you’ve created at least one custom topic page, the Custom Topic List module displays a link that allows you to select custom topic pages and add them to your topic list.
