v2.0.3 Release Notes

Daylife Select 2.0.3 Release Notes

Released April 16th, 2009

Daylife Select 2.0.3 introduces several new features designed to optimize Daylife Select site integration and increase publishing flexibility. We are also debuting a new Daylife.com topic page in beta release that showcases modules for exploring topic connections and geographic connections.

New Features
  • SmartContext Widgets. A companion feature to SmartContext Topic Links, SmartContext Widgets is another powerful way to integrate Daylife Select into your website. SmartContext Widgets are contextually aware of the content on the page on which they are embedded. Just embed a SmartContext widget on any web page on your site, tell us what content you’d like the widget to target, and the widget will analyze that content, extract the most relevant related topics, and display the freshest content for those topics.

    • SmartContext Widgets can be configured to display headlines, photos, and quotes for any topic, and all the content links to your Daylife Select site.
    • The widgets come in three different sizes: Small, Wide, and Tall. The small size is specifically designed to integrate inset within the body of an article, wide can be integrated across the entire width of an article, and tall can be integrated in the right or left column adjacent to an article (see diagram on the right).
    • The widgets can be completely customized with CSS, so they match the look-and-feel of your website.
    • The data can be completely customized, and you can even apply source filters and topic filters to the widgets.
    • Here are some examples of SmartContext Widgets in the Default CSS:
  • Multiple Topic Page Designs. Publishers can now choose from three different topic page designs: the default two-column design, an alternative two-column design without the river of news, and a three-column design. Navigate to a topic page from the Daylife Select Wizard, click ‘Edit Page’, and then click the “Change Page Design >>” link.
  • New Login Experience. We have streamlined the Daylife Select login experience for publishers. Publisher no longer have to login at Daylife.com, although they can continue to do so to manage and access multiple sites.  Publishers can now login at www.sitename.com/login (they will be redirected to this page when they try to access their sites from Daylife.com). Additional benefits include Daylife Select Wizard performance optimization.
  • Beta Topic Page. We are debuting a new topic page in beta release at our showcase site Daylife.com. You can check out the new page by navigating to any topic page on Daylife.com, and clicking the preview link in the frame on the bottom of the page. Here’s an example of the beta topic page for Barack Obama.  And you can also take a tour of the new page and submit feedback.

Key New Features:

  • Topic Connections. The Related Topics Module now provides an alternate view that lets users explore the connection between topics. Just mouse over any related topic to see the number of article connections and click to see the full connection.

  • This module is in beta release, but publishers can experiment with it by creating a new site and adding the “Topics & Connections” module. Please note that his module will not display properly on existing sites without the module CSS.

Clicking to see the full connection takes you to the See the Connection Page, also in beta. The page displays articles connections, photo connections, and quote connections.

  • NewsMap. The module plots geographic connections to topic. Just mouse over the pins on the map to explore these connections.

This module is in beta release, but publishers can experiment with it by creating a new site and adding the “Topic Map” module. Please note that this module will not display properly on existing sites without the module CSS.
