Custom Pages
Daylife has many thousands of topic pages, but sometimes you'll want one for a topic we don't have or an event or issue of particular interest to you.
That's why we built the Custom Page feature. You can create a page full of content based on any search query you can think of.
Watch the VideoHere's how it works:
TO CREATE A CUSTOM PAGE...
- Go to the Edit Content and click "Add Custom Page"
- Give your page a title (this will appear at the top of the page)
- Give your page a URL. As with all URLs, this needs to be continuous string of characters, alphanumeric only (plus dashes or underscores).
- Enter your search query. This can be simple (e.g., "Unemployment") or complex (see the example in the screenshot). Daylife uses a simplified version of Lucene query syntax which usescommon Boolean operators (AND, OR, etc.). Structure your query like you would to search Daylife.com, then click "Save Custom Page"
- After that, you'll see a message with a link to review your page. Take a look and if the results aren't quite right, just tweak your search query to get better results. When done, click "Done".
TO MANAGE A CUSTOM PAGE...
After you make the page, editing it is just like editing other pages & modules. It can all be done from the Edit Page tab.
One important thing you may want to do is add a lead photo to your page, so that the question mark graphic goes away. To do that:
- Go to Edit Page > Main Content > Daylife Custom Page Header > "Edit"
- Enter the URL of your image in the "Hero Image (URL)" field (should be 90x90, though you can adjust the size in this palette) . Click "Done" to see it on the page.
You should use a legal, non-copyrighted image, of course. Using one from Daylife is ok.
Notes:
- If you want people to be able to see your custom pages (and the rest of your site), be sure to click "Make this site public" under the Basics tab.
- Making search queries can be tricky at first, so don't be afraid to try different combinations to get the results you want.
- If you want to save time, you can test your search query using the daylife.com search box before making your custom page. The results should be identical, so you can see how your query – and your page – will perform.
